Times Tables Castle ("the app") is a short daily times tables practice for a primary school child, with a castle that lights up as facts stick. This policy explains what the app keeps on the device and what it sends elsewhere. The short version: it sends nothing. Everything the app saves stays on the device it was saved on.
Who the app is for
The app is made for children of primary school age, used with a parent, carer or teacher nearby. It has no ads, no in-app purchases, no accounts, no chat, no links to websites and no way to contact anyone from inside it.
What the app stores on the device
The app is set up for one child per device. It saves:
- The child's first name (or any name or nickname you type, up to 20 letters), typed once by a grown-up when the app is first opened. It is shown on screen as text only. It is never spoken aloud, never put into the audio and never sent anywhere.
- The school year you chose (Year 2, 3 or 4) and the guide character you picked.
- Practice progress: which times tables and division facts have come up, which were answered correctly and how quickly, which lessons have been seen, short records of each day's practice (questions asked, answers correct, time spent), a practice session that was paused part-way, and the results of the optional "Practise the check" rehearsal.
- Grown-up settings: practice length, the table the class is on this week, the optional timer bar, and the 11s and 12s and practice check switches.
- Diary notes, if a grown-up writes any: one short note a day (up to 280 characters) in the For grown-ups area.
- Display settings: sound on or off, plain font, high contrast and reduced movement.
All of it is saved in the app's own private storage on the device. Answer times are measured on the device only, to decide which facts are quick and which need more practice.
What we collect
Nothing. The developer does not collect, receive, store, sell or share any personal information or usage data.
- The app sends nothing over the internet while it is used. Its pictures, voice clips, fonts and everything else it needs come with the app.
- There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising software.
- The app does not use the microphone, camera, location or contacts, and does not ask for an email address, a date of birth or a photo.
- Taps and key presses are read only to answer the question on screen and are not recorded beyond the progress listed above.
If you use the app in a web browser
The app can also be opened as a web page and added to the home screen. In that case the browser downloads the app's files once from the web host, and after that the app works with no connection. Like any website, the host's servers see the technical details every browser sends to fetch a page, such as the IP address and browser type, while those files are delivered. The developer does not add analytics or tracking to the site and does not use this information. Your answers, the child's name and the diary are never part of those requests; they stay in the browser's storage on the device.
Saving and loading a progress file
In the For grown-ups area you can tap "Save progress file". This saves a copy of everything listed above, including the child's name and any diary notes, to the device as a file. The app does not send it anywhere. The copy is yours and stays where you saved it until you delete it. "Load progress file" lets you pick such a file to bring progress onto a new device; the app reads it on the device and replaces the progress there only after you confirm. If you move or share the file using another app or service, that app or service has its own privacy policy.
Keeping and deleting your data
Everything stays on the device until you delete it.
- The child's name can be changed at any time in For grown-ups, and a diary note is removed by clearing its text.
- "Reset progress" in For grown-ups clears practice progress, lessons, practice records and practice check results after you confirm.
- Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored. If you use the app in a web browser, clearing that site's data in the browser settings deletes everything. Because nobody else has a copy, nothing can be recovered afterwards, and there is nothing for the developer to delete on request.
Children's privacy
The app is made for children and is designed to follow the Google Play Families policy and Apple's rules for apps in the Kids category. It does not collect personal information from children, or from anyone else. The child's name stays on the device and is never sent to the developer or anyone else. The app shows no ads, includes no third-party analytics or advertising software, offers no purchases, has no social features and does not open websites. A parent or guardian with questions can contact the developer at the address below.
Purchases
The app is free and has no in-app purchases. If a purchase is ever added, this policy will be updated first and will say what the store handles for that purchase.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new "Last updated" date.
